To carry out deep analysis, in fact, there has not been felt such sincerity between Azerbaijan and Iran Islamic Republic during 20 years since Azerbaijan has gained its independence: mutual disbelief, paranoical symptoms, changeability, tension and dissatisfactions. Although there was constant slogan of brotherhood between them and always historical, cultural, religious and neighbourhood factor were considered significant.
Unprecedented tension
But in the last years, especially since the beginning of 2011, these relations reached to unprecedented tension and mutual accusations level of almost all: social, political, cultural and etc. fields. And this case was actually felt in the state level. It is true that there is still restrained manner in the official state administration level by both parties. But that is just an image.
In the last years Iran-Azerbaijan confrontation began with dilemma ?to wear or not to wear hijab schoolgirls at schools?? and came to end with the average distance hints; this fight came to the level to arrest proiranian Islam party members in Azerbaijan.
Where, in which side is the reason?
What is the reason that these two nearby countries, which have the same religion, culture, music-mugham, customs and traditions, national majority (Azeri), are in the durable disloyalty situation? Why was unprecedented tension begun between these countries, in which side is the reason?
First of all, I considered necessary to look for the mentioned reasons inside Iran. Why? All sciences, theories and as well as researches in the world are based on logic and is formed in this highness absolute flatness. Logically, Azerbaijan (9 mln popul.), which has newly gained its independence, in addition, which lives in the war situation with Armenians who is supported by Russia, does not have any purpose, nor desire, nor intention to fight with another 75 mln population giant neighbour country like Iran. This objective argument can?t be disputed.
Iran is a giant country, and also it has its great ideas. Its present power has non-ordinary ambitional politico-ideological direction from the first founding, and tries to form such similar countries in the surrounding; otherwise it will be able to fall to the death situation. We have seen this situation in the Soviet Union example. Thus, foreign policy, influence to foreign countries, revolution export are the main factors for Iran.
Iran was prepared
It became clear from the last cold fight that, during the last peace, cease-fire years Iran was not silent in relation with Azerbaijan, that he calls little brother. It had quite expense and effort, formed its necessary ?weapons? to use in the strained situations with neighbour country. Hijab supporters, political Islamists, young believers, all people in Azerbaijan stood up in chorus while the button was pressed from Tehran. This chorus was conducted by the Media, Ayatollahs and other effective means. It was a systematic process.
Let?s see which supporter means did Azerbaijan turn on within Iran in this cold fight tension period? Which social, political, religious figure, social-political organization or any person from Iran side supported Azerbaijan? No one! Neither from the society, nor the government, nor the opposition! So Azerbaijan didn?t work in this direction and in fact it didn?t have any objective or interest to create any support point in Iran territory.
Research direction
After all these bases I decided to go Iran Islamic Republic and to clarify the mentioned questions in the place. I considered that the social influence of the real truth would be more effective than sitting in Baku and accusing Iran side. One more purpose in my visit was to learn social situation, democracy and human rights in Iran and general situation of Azeri cognates in Iran.
I knew that visa wasn?t demanded to Iran for Azerbaijani citizens. But I also knew that there will appear problem while entering Iran as I had Israel visa in my passport. I didn?t want urgently to change my passport, because I had there 6 months Great Britain multiple visa. So, I decided to take a risk: if they don?t allow me to enter the country in Tehran airport, I will insist; if they return me back, so it will be the topic of one research about Iran reality.
I briefly informed one information agency about my visit to Iran for not to face with any problem in my visit. I thought to give detailed information after this visit will be in normal course.
Visit to Iran. February 01, 2011
I flew on the 1st of February 2011. When I approached custom passage in Baku, Haydar Aliyev airport, custom-house officer passed back of the monitor and began to check my bag in the control apparatus. I felt that they ?scan? everything in my bag. It caused me to think a little, there arose some mixed senses inside me: I?m under the observation from the beginning?
As the weather was clear Tehran had a beautiful scene in the background of night lights. It is a big city situating in the south bottom of Talish mountain range. The plane was big, but passengers were less. Some serious persons meet our respected writer-dramatist Mr. Ibragimbekov with the placard written his name in the previous passage of passport supervision and it attracted my attention. He was coming with us, but I didn?t notice.
Iran official, who checked my passport in boundary passage, looked attentively at Shengen and Britain visas in their pages. I was a bit confused. Israel visa was in the last page. Before reaching this page I asked him question whether he knows English or not? He looked at me and answered in English: ?a little?. He smiled. I also smiled. Immediately he pressed ?entrance? stamp to the passport, closed it and returned back to me with the same smiling tone. Even he didn?t interest why I asked that question. I prepared my answer that: ?it is so easy; we don?t need visa from our country to Iran?. Seems, the officer considered that there was resolute trusting contact between us with one question-answer and smile.
As if I was in Europe
Tehran airport named after Imam Khomeyni is very modern, even also the people in that airport. Especially women clothing style was striking. I thought for a moment that I was in Europe: jeans pants, short tight waistcoat, half head cover. These covers have as if symbolical character by covering just one part of the hair. As if they want to show that they are free, they can avoid Islamic covering rules, and they wear it not because of religion but for the sake of fashion. Very often they suddenly pull the head cover to the back showing all hairs and draw it to the forward and again to the back and more than half of their hair remain in outside. It is a bit comic, interesting but in fact deep social meaningful situation.
This view belong most women in Tehran. There are about 20-30 percent women who wear in religious rules and have hijab. It seems that such women devoted their life to this sect, like Christian nuns in Europe.
I?ve especially stood in this cover problem and may be I acted small-mindedly, because Iran side blames Azerbaijan with hijab issue and the main disputes arise for that reason...
Investigation plan
At the airport I was met by my friend from Tehran whom I know since 1993. We came to Tehran by taxi of the man who used to live in Ukraine for a long time, his wife was Ukrainian, and he knew Russian well. He showed his gratitude on returning to Iran with family, his living in Iran, his current situation. He denied severity of Iran regime, existence of hanging punishment. I didn?t ask deep questions about his religious beliefs. It was beginning of my visit, he would be someone purposely directed.
He noted that the next day, February 2 is a religious holiday in Iran and it is work day till the midday in February 3. And the 4th of February Friday is rest-day like Sunday in our country. I had my ticket back for that day. So, my visit coincided with days on strike. If my works go on successfully, I had to prolong ticket date. At night I settled in the centre of Tehran, ?Dorsa? hotel.
I planned to have a city walk in Tehran in February 2, Tuesday, to get acquainted with the situation and in the next day, in the 3rd of February to visit ?Sahar? TV channel constantly disturbing Azerbaijan with its telecasts.
Tehran, 02 February, 2011
Tehran is a discrepant city, even illogically, first of all because of its appearance. There is high-rise rich and modern building in the district within the 1-2-3 storey old poor houses. There suddenly appears Japan or Korean company or bank in front of the shops that are closed with iron grills. Or there appear decorated, nice restaurant among the bad quality cafeterias! Or, there is a length of nice quality boulevard between the patched streets with the uneven surfaces.
It seems that the city can not find its natural harmonious, parallel development. And it seems there is strong influence over the development in this country.
Formerly Tehran was known as civilization centre, but now it stays behind not only Istanbul, as well as behind the rest of capitals of post-soviet countries in terms of social-economic development. The buildings are without repair, the streets are rough, untidy and anti-sanitary condition. It seems clear that no resource is allocated for comprehensive development of the city for a long time. I have been to other cities of Iran before and met more devastated situation and I thought that capital city Tehran would be different, but unfortunately?
It means that the main resources of the country are spent for the directions that are not needed. It seems that these expenses are directed to foreign countries, for realization of some idea export. It is the line of Soviet Period.
The cars of the city include cheap Korean production, or France model of old Iran cars. Street traffic rules are not almost observed and this regulation is in the justice of drivers and pedestrians. Traffic police are in shabby clothes and pessimistic. A lot of rule violations took place in front of their eyes, but they behave as they didn?t see it. Then I learned that these police get very low salary. However, it became clear that Iran has also strong and strict law enforcement agencies which appear in an important situation for authorities. People not only obey them, but also they are afraid of hearing their voice or names. This is also, one of Iran contradictions.
Life in Tehran
Life is very dull in Tehran. As if the city has gone out from the earthquake lately. People have constraint and tension. There are portraits of religious leaders in the streets and squares. Azan voices are heard sometimes. But this azan is not as strong and long as in Istanbul. People seem weak, tired and anxious. Music voices are not heard anywhere, there is no one who loudly speaks and laughs, freedom does not exist. Some busy people are in a hurry to reach to their work places as if not to be seen in the streets. There are a lot of single, unemployed people. They are collected especially in the squares in shabby clothes, hands in their pockets and are mournful. There are a lot of displeased people in Iran and it is interesting that they are not afraid to talk about their protests.
We talked with young man who had Talysh origin, was from Iran Astara, was brought up in Tehran and had a little shop there. He complained that there is no freedom in the country. He spoke about the current regime, its abuse of Islam religions rules for its government. He was boundless displeased. He said that he has some financial resources, but there is not any place or condition to use these resources. ?Life has turned off in the country, constraint condition has been created. We have to listen tales of this government on their bewildered ideas, Islam revolution and religious rules. All of them are false and false! It is 30 years that they deceived 75 mln populations. But they entertain themselves, eat, drink. They live as they want. They have formed revolutionary guard forces, pseudo-public organizations and poor, labouring masses for themselves. If necessary they give them the way to the forward. There none can build his business except their close people?.
He said that one Azerbaijani official from Baku had his own special area to build high building in the centre of Tehran. Recently they took this area from him by court. ?The court services them completely?.
Public discontent
I was witness of discontents on such injustice and unfairness in the meetings with some common people and public figures. They are inwardly furious against the government. They have already understood that some group of people used Islam factor for more then 30 years and seized the power, deceived the people and isolated the country from the world, turned it the closed prison. All the cards are already opened. It is clearly felt that the country is in the final level of tension. It is seen from the spiritual-psychological situation that people don?t need anything more, they are fed up. They are even not interested in finance. They just need freedom, liberty.
Persians in Iran
It is interesting that the main discontent in the country is among Persian nationality citizens. They have deep and bitter regret against that strange, unjust system, social unjustness, and anti-democratic situation.
I have to mention that Persian born common citizens created enough positive impressions on me. They preserved their interior stability, Old Persian cultural-national legacy during such strained years. Let?s confess that they have high intelligence, ability of thinking and behaviour. Seems that this nation used to live their developed civilization period in the history.
I want to mention one objective observation that Persian majority is not in such hegemonic situation in Iran. There is not any special privilege, superiority and petting in their attitude and behaviour. ?Persian chauvinism? is not concerned to millions of Persians. That superiority factor was put forward by some group. ?Persian regime? government didn?t give any superiority to millions of Persians over other nations. In fact it will never give! Because the authoritarian regime is formed just only the ones who created it itself and dividends belong to them who manages it.
We have also seen it in the Soviet Period. Russians were the ruling class in words, but the ruling part was ?Politburo? and ?partnomenkulatura?. Common Russian majority was required to be forbearing, cultural in relation with other nations. Because the peculiarity of dictatorship regime is that: to put forward on national-cultural community and to do their works behind them. At the result this community stays without anything and with moral responsibility.
Azeries in Iran
Living condition of Azeries(Azerbaijan nationality) in Iran is not in low level. The nation is brave, can earn their money. As a community they don?t have moral load like ?leading of ideas? over them: despite of public position and specialities, they can benefit from all works, opportunities to take care of their families in such confused, difficult period. They are very labouring and businessmen.
Azeri Turks are many. Even it becomes clear that one from each two-three people is Azeri Turk in Tehran. The officials in Iran confessed during my visit that 40 mln of 75 mln population of the country are Azeri Turks. Azeries are very national community for their number, energy and dynamic in Iran. This community is incresing, active and developing despite of all restrictions.
The problem is in the majority of Azeri Turks living in Iran. It is very difficult for regime, to build the country on the basis of Islam religion and Persian national-cultural ideas, and actually other nation-azeri turks organize the national majority. It is needed to combine two nations ? having private origin, history, custom, language and culture ? Persian and Turk nations in one bewildered substitute called ?Iran nation?: There is not any Turkish in Iranian, they are Iranian and the Iranian speaks, writes and reads in Persian language. That is all!
Paradox!
There appears artificial situation that the majority obeys the minority. The restrictions arise from there: not to open Azeri language school, not to speak, write, read in Azeri language! A little part from Azeries is chosen for this propaganda. They are educated and brought up in Persian style. They are shown as example that Azeries know Persian language and culture no less than Persians, so, there is no need to open school in Azeri language! Iran is over than the Soviet regime for this idea. The Soviet regime accepted the existence, language of the nation and never used ?the Soviet nation? idiom.
It is the main problem of Azeri Turks in Iran! National majority in the country is deviated from speaking, writing and reading in their own language. The existence of 40 mln national community is denied and forgotten. This difficult regime uses all influence and pressure methods. It means that Azeri Turks in Iran are living in constraint situation: repression and in addition national-ethnic restrictions. It seems that Azeri Turks should be 100-150 thousand little minority, like Armenians in Iran, that not to be confined.
What worries the regime?
Despite of all these facts, the Azeri Turks in Iran are in their increase and dynamics. The restrictions, influences and pressures make them more resolute, strong and firm. The main reason of this persistence is that 9 mln cognates are separated from 250 mln Soviet Empire and formed their independent state Azerbaijan!
May be it is the main reason that worries Iran regime? May be this factor creates disloyalty since Azerbaijan has gained its independence?
In case, if Iran government thinks real, it must realize that its negative policy, humiliating behaviour against Azeri Turk national community can serve increase of public explosion components in the future.
Tehran, ?Sahar? TV,
03 February, 2011.
I went to Iran State Television on Friday, 3 February early in the morning. I was informed that ?Sahar?TV is located in this territory. Tehran is situated in foothills relief and the television is situated in upland side. It was snowing when I reached there as it was high area. I asked people ?Sahar?TV, they showed me the building of State Teleradio Organization. Then I realized that ?Sahar?TV is one part of that organization and is situated in the building in its yard.
I was very confused whether they will allow me in if they know that I came from Azerbaijan? I was a bit quietly, as I gave interviews to this channel from Baku, although last time we stopped interview in hijab issue because of discrepancy. And in 2002 I defended civil rights of Shie-Islam religious people of Nardaran, village near Baku in confrontation with the Police. I knew that Iran defends them and even that time Iran government thanked me about this issue.
The Police checked my passport in entrance post. There were sitting head-covered women in the main entrance-control building and I have to mention that they are covered with the original religious rule in comparison with the people in the city. I presented myself, and notified my purpose, submitting my passport. They asked me wait, called somewhere, and then passed my passport to one security collaborator. They consulted with someone in the telephone, gave the number. I called to someone and spoke in Azeri and explained the situation. He asked me to wait for 15 minutes. Then they allowed me to enter in.
I have to mention here that although Iran security system is known as tough repressive regime in the world, but is not so vigilant and careful. It is also one of Iran contradictions: to create maximum frightful view.
Acquaintance with ?Sahar? TV
I passed to the garden from entrance building and went towards television building; one cheerful person met me there. He said that he is the chairman of department ?Azeri TV? in ?Sahar? is Burhan Hashmati. We came to the front of one building, and he said that ?Sahar?TV channel is situated here showing me one building and said this building is being constructed for ??Sahar? TV and they will move there.
We entered one workroom where were some computers and long meeting table. He acquainted me with other employees of TV channel: Mujtahid Mehdi-manager of ?Sahar?TV channel (originally Persian), Vehruz Naziri-technical editor and other employees. They gave me information about history and structure of ?Sahar?TV.
They said that ?Morning? TV is one part of Iran state tele-radio organization. ?Sahar-1? is broadcasted in Azeri, Bosniya and France languages. ??Sahar-2? is broadcasted in Kurd, English and Ordu-Phalestin languages. They mentioned that their place is rather small; ?Azeri-TV? is located in the same room with the manager, where we sat and talked.
Firstly, they briefly informed that they are not against Azerbaijan country; just they say the truth as free Media organ; they said that their website is blotted out in Azerbaijan and immediately wrote me the name of new websites.
Discussion with the ?Sahar?
Our interview began with hijab issue. As my questions were public character, I addressed them all anyone from TV members could answer them. That is why I note this interview between ?Integral? and ??Sahar?.
?Integ?: Just a little before you said that you broadcasted the truth about Azerbaijan. Nevertheless, you have unilateral and even incendiary position in the transmissions about Azerbaijan. How can we understand this??
?Sahar?: We elucidate opinions of both sides. Our audience complained about uniforms and hijab prohibition at Baku schools during summer and we elucidated this. 2-3 months later we broadcasted opinions of Misir Mardanov, Ministry of Education about hijab prohibition. Then the devout held picket in front of the Ministry of Education during Kadir holiday, we elucidated this picket also. Then we elucidated their picket in front of Iran Embassy in Baku. All of them don?t mean that we interfere in internal affairs of Azerbijan.
?Integ?: There was a high level reaction to hijab problem in Azerbaijan from Iran. Is it true?
?Sahar?: Yes, our religious leaders, ayetullahs gave reaction. Ayetullah Mekarim Shirazi criticized hijab prohibition. Ayetullah Nuvi Hamadani investigated ?uniform-hijab issue in Azerbaijan and gave a Fitva (religious decision). Ayetullah Jafar Subhani wrote a letter to the president Ilham Aliyev about this issue.
?Integ?: Investigation is interesting. How did it result of Fitfa?
?Sahar?: The decision was that the girls should go to school and also should wear hijab.
?Integ?: It means that girls can go school with hijab! If the Ministry of Education defined uniform without hijab, so this investigation is not contrary to the State law? Generally, does a religious figure of one country have the right to decide about state-citizen relation in another country? Is not it intervention to internal affairs of the state?
?Sahar?: No, it is not so, Ayetullahs rebuted against Azerbaijan just in offer form. But in fact they say their opinions freely in Iran. Those powerful people just order.
?Integ?: If Ayatullah in Iran has the right to investigate issue in Azerbaijan, doesn?t it mean that there are religious section and movements in Azerbaijan that obey decisions of Iranian Ayetullahs?
?Sahar?: Iran is the country based on Islam religious value. Religious prohibitions in Azerbaijan create contrary effect in Iran. Prohibition of hijab, arrest of Islam Party members, actions against Fatimeyi-Zahra mosque are insult against Islam. Khomeini revolution began also so in Iran. Insults against religious values always create explosion. It is so all over the world. They behave wrong in Azerbaijan in hijab issue. They make a lot of mistakes.
?Integ?: I have been to the center of Tehran yesterday. I observed that almost 7-8 of every 10 women are not normally covered. Two of three part of their hair is seen. They wear jeans trousers and narrow jacket. If you want we can go together to observe. What does it mean? Can do Ayetullahs investigate this? What your Ayetullahs think about?
?Sahar?: We don?t consider them covered; we don?t consider them fully Moslem...
?Integ?: It clearly seems that they are oppressed of covering. They don?t accept Iranian religious rules.
?Sahar?: You know, before the requirements were very strict. But recently there is not such severity. For example, right now new acquainted man and woman can live together 1 hour, or 3 days as temporary wedlock. It becomes clear that we can not achieve anything by sharpness.
?Integ?: So it means that Iran government has become soft recently. It is strong not against them who don?t observe and obey religious rules, but them who are against the government-political opponents. But there was strong control over both areas before. Dose it mean that government now busy to keep its existence?
?Sahar?: We don?t accept your question. The government is strong in Iran. Iran population is in its side. Yes, we have sharpness against different provocations. But most people respect Islam values. They, who don?t respect Islam values, will answer to Allah.
?Integ?: It is observed that democracy is not in good situation in Iran. People with different opinions are repressed by the political power. Peaceful protest actions against government are destroyed. Does ?Sahar? TV elucidate these also? We don?t find it.
?Sahar?: People respect Islam revolution here. There is not opposition in Iran. But there are people who try to alarm with the support of external forces, USA, Great Britain countries. But the government organs answer them.
?Integ?: I don?t know how this situation in Iran is: is there any Media organ that criticizes Iran government? Although there are some obstacles for activity of the Media in Azerbaijan, but there are harsh criticism against the state leadership. But in the TV
Channel of other Iran country insulting criticism of Azerbaijani president?s views was not unambiguously accepted by the entire society. How would you explain it?
?Sahar?: That program was wrong. It was from the placard of picket held in Turkey. Usually we keep certain level. Chairman of Islam Party in Baku, Haji Movsum spoke very sharp about President Ilham Aliyev. Even, we didn?t broadcast all of these criticisms.
?Integ?: It is interesting that when there is religious problem about Turkish mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan, then there is no voice from Iran. But when there happens problem about proiranian religious agencies, then the certain sections begin their chorus protest actions both from Iran and Azerbaijan. Especially Azeri people who graduated in Iran religious madras become more active. Doesn?t it mean that all of these are conducted by the same centre from Iran?
?Sahar?: We declare once more that Iran Islam Republic is based on religious values. Iran parties gave reaction when Islam Party members are arrested in Baku, Astara, and Ganja. Islam Alliance and other organizations, deputies gave sharp reaction. It should be so. Even the Embassy, the Azerbaijan government, Allahshukur Pashazadeh, the head of Caucasus Muslims knows the numbers, names, places of Azeri students studying in Iran Mashhad, Gum. They are religious universities. It is religious education; there is nothing fearful, secret. Why they don?t worry when Azeris go to study, for example to USA? There are also Iranian students in Azerbaijan, in the Medical University, history faculty.
?Integ?: But for some reason Iranian students, who came to Iran from Baku, are not taking fanaticism of Baku, Azerbaijan.
?Sahar?: We can?t say. Perhaps, it is the strength of Iran education system.
?Integ?: I have such impression that I am not in TV channel, but in political body that supports government party. Please don?t be offended with me. ?Sahar? TV channel is free Media. Isn?t it possible to show different position from religious sections, government members, deputies in the relation with Azerbaijan? Isn?t it possible to have more friable and compromiser position as free Media?
?Sahar?: It is true; we can not achieve anything by abusing each other. We need to talk a lot about solution ways. It is not good to take out this conflict to the world level. Relevant parties from Azerbaijan and Iran should meet and talk about this issue. We have also to recognize that there is not any free TV channel in Iran and it can?t be. We have ?Seda?-radio and ?Sema?-television joint organization. There are 105 radiotelevision agencies in its structure. ?Sahar? is one of these 105.
?Integ?: Iran always notes that they are friends, brothers with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan never joined sanctions of USA and other super countries against Iran. Azerbaijan didn?t give its consent to plan military operations against Iran in its territory. But Iran is in warm relations with Armenia, who occupied Azerbaijan lands and is in war situation with Azerbaijan. Ministry of Oil of Armenia came to Iran and signed the pipeline contract. ?Sahar? television widely broadcasted it to Azerbaijan territory. So which attitude begins towards Iran in Azerbaijan society, could you imagine?
?Sahar?: Yes, we broadcasted. Ministry of Oil of Armenia had come. The relations of Iran with Armenia in economic or other spheres are less than relations with Azerbaijan. Ministry of Oil of Iran-Kazimi went to Baku and signed the official document. He met your president Ilham Aliyev. We elucidated this meeting. But Azerbaijani Media elucidated our Oil Minister very less. The balance is not kept. There is not any Media anti-propaganda against Iran in Armenia. But ?Olaylar? Information Agency , ?Ayna? newspaper, ?Mediaforum?, ANS TV channel, deputy-poet Sabir Rustamkhanli does this. This issue can not be solved with political speculation.
?Integ?: I walked Tehran yesterday. MashAllah, there are a lot of population. How many populations are there in Iran?
?Sahar?: There are more than 75 mln.
?Integ?: There are also a lot of ethnic Azeris in Iran. How many are they, you think?
?Sahar?: (They became counting in Persian language). Approximately 40 mln, they answered.
?Integ?: It becomes clear from your confession that Azeri Turks are national majority in Iran. But they don?t have their school in the country. The main problem that disturbs the public in Baku, Azerbaijan is that. Isn?t it paradox, how do you think?
?Sahar?: This question exists in Azerbaijan, not here. It is not strong public demand. There are some Azeris in Iran that know Persian language and literature much better than
Persians. There is common Iran nation here and its language is Persian. Although there is not a school, but there are some courses for Azeri language in Iran. But, none attends these courses. Even the talishs don?t have their school.
?Integ?: Azeri language is the language of 40 mln national majority in Iran. It is disrespect to this society and the main factor that strengthens protest feeling. This language is also one branch of hundred millions Turks? language. This language is used in many countries in the north, west, and east of you. How can be denied this truth by any ideas?
?Sahar?: Azeris in Iran are fully integrated to the nation in the form of unified nation.
?Integ?: Just only 100-200 thousand Armenians have their own school in Iran. It seems that it is more profitable to be few for being free? And are not these Armenians integrated in Iran?
?Sahar?: They are a little bit isolated themselves. Generally, we consider them as lower level section in Iran.
?Integ?: Strange, few, lower level, but free and independent section?
The next impression
I couldn?t help laughing in this illogical and absurd step of the conversation, and they also began to laugh. What can they explain? They didn?t create these problems! Even the creator can not answer this, what can they do? If the central information and ideological means responsible persons can not explain their government policy, so what can millions of citizen do, what can they think?
Injustice and violence are always based on illogicality, finishes with comic tragedy. A person lives his most tragic period when he can?t define the process around him to be laughed or cried. Comic tragedy is that! Iran population lives this tragedy!
At the end of our conversation they invited me to perform in ?Compass? TV evening program. They said that ?Compass? TV program broadcasts about Egypt revolution each evening these days. But this evening they want to devote time for me. But I refused this invitation gently, because I knew that my speech can be mounted. Then they invited me to lunch. I agreed with the hope that they will help me in the meeting with deputies and religious figures.
We ate Tehran-pilaff in the dining-room in the yard of television organization. I wanted to pay 100 thousand tumen (9 dollars) money for my portion, but they didn?t allow me, so I didn?t insist. Interesting, the people who were interviewed by me 15 minutes before, were different people during lunch. They were completely simple and friendly. It seems before they fulfilled their duty and functions required for their daily life, salary, perspectives. It seems that ?regime supporter? rumour was also relative in Iran.
When I parted with them, just called assistants of Tabriz city deputy Farhangi and of Ayatullah Subhani; they fixed appointment with me.
Lucky beginning!
My visit has begun luckily. I walked Tehran till evening, met some interesting people. In the evening I sent to Baku brief information about the first days of my visit and my meeting in ?Sahar? TV. I called and asked my assistant to pass this information to some Azerbaijan newspaper and information agencies. It was necessary for me to know public attitude to my visit. That evening my assistant said he had passed the necessary information.
I planned to change back my ticket to Baku next day to stay here some more days and meet Iran public and government officials, then try to meet Iran opposition leaders Musavi and Karrubi. I considered that after my meetings with some well- known state persons Iran government will not prohibit my meeting with opposition leaders.
Anti-support from Baku
The next day was Friday. It was not work day and religious leader Khomeini will take the common prayer that day. I wanted to observe this process also. I got up in the morning, looked at the websites of our newspapers. I didn?t see any information in any website. Even not in any newspaper. It was strange. As if they were avoided from any force, as if some centre forbade it.
I called once more to a editor of IA and understood that it is really so. I was anxious, why? It is very strange.
I have been to other countries before and investigated more complicated problems. For example, in Turkey and Israel and investigated ?Mavi Marmara? conflict. But I didn?t meet media problem kike that in my country. What is happening? All people in Baku, from the Parliament till public organizations have their opinions about the last frictions in Iran. Some people write, some speak, some hold meetings against Iran! Is the patriotism also in monopoly in Azerbaijan? Do we have to ask special permission for it and to be fitted for the special standards?
...confused minds...
Whom do my investigations worry in Baku, interesting? May be it is good opportunity, to soil free investigator with the name ?treason to national interest?? My minds were very confused. I immediately thought: it is good that I didn?t participate in ?Compass? program of ?Sahar? TV. Otherwise Iran side could montage my speech and it will be good opportunity for them in Azerbaijan! Then I also thought whether I did right or not that I went to eat pilaff with ?Sahar? TV employees. Will that 9 dollars pilaff fact be put in my files of secret agencies in Baku who have observed me for several years? But, the pilaff case became to seem a beet comic. I smiled and calmed down a little.
There remained very little period till my flight time. I had to decide whether to stay or to leave. I thought that it would be difficult to continue my work with such mood and anxiety. Besides I had toothache, it hurt me. I called ?Sahar? TV manager Mr. Burhan and told him that urgently I had to go to Baku. He said that he regrets, but the meetings have been appointed for tomorrow.
...and turning back
I went to the airport in the car of one Irag born half-bearded person. He was originally Arabic or Kurdish. He knew some English words. It was some years that he came to Iran and began to learn Persian language. He seemed very easy-tempered. He listened the speech of Khomeini about Egypt revolution on the radio. He roughly broke rules of way, gave signal to any car, and shouted at them. It was interesting for me that how any stranger can be hegemonic over the local population. Then I learned that it has the reason, even social-political reason.
This person was from Shiah belief Arabs group. They arrived in mass to Iran. He said that they live here like master, but sometimes they secretly go to Iraq, they are pursued by Iraq government. It becomes clear that such people are brought up by Iran state to impact processes in Iraq. As well as the country support Shiahs in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
From our conversation it became clear that these non-iranian groups that are supported by Iran government for suppression of internal protests. So that.
The officer turned over the pages of my passport in boundary passage of Tehran airport. At that time I didn?t have desire and stimulus to distract his attention to see Israel visa. When he saw Israel visa in the last page he was shocked. He took my passport and run to the control office. He returned back with two officers, they took my bag and began to check it. They questioned me. I wanted to explain that I am an independent investigator, I went to Israel to investigate ?Mavi Marmara? incident. They took my mobile, camera, they discussed a lot and finally returned my things and allowed me to fly. Then I saw that all the numbers in my mobile and all the pictures in my camera have been deleted. To tell the truth, I didn?t have chance to take important photos in a short period.
In Baku
There was not any problem in Baku airport, my entrance was normal, moderate and without any obstacle. When I came back, immediately I gave interview to one of the newspapers about my visit and its essence. I wrote official letter to Iran Embassy in Baku and protested about the problem happened in Tehran airport. I expressed by phoning my discontent to ?Sahar? TV administration of Iran about it. They said they will carry out investigation, but unfortunately?
I regret that I stopped my research visit unfinished. I started activity in Iran with difficulty in such inconsistent time. But a lot of results were obtained. Nevertheless, I am decisive to go Iran and finish my research while having good opportunity.
As my visit was short period and unfinished and as I couldn?t carry out complete social research, so it is impossible to come to the concrete results. That is why I presented that visit with all little details.
Nevertheless, I would like to share the absolute result obtained during my Iran investigation visit:
Iran is one of the last countries who can interfere in internal affairs and become a sample for Azerbaijan.
